Supplies / Ingredients needed

  • Cups
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Wooden Blocks

Directions

  1. This DIY is geared towards challenging your little ones to create and build using S.T.E.A.M.! To begin constructing our towers we will need to provide our little ones with the materials listed above and anything else you would like to include!
  2. Find a clear space along with plastic or paper cups, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, and maybe some blocks so your little one can experiment with stacking.
  3. As they stack, encourage your child to test out their ideas to see what happens. Trial and error is an important learning process to help understand scientific topics such as cause & effect and reasoning skills. Your little one can even still engage in learning these skills by knocking down their towers!
  4. Expand on this activity by introducing new terms such as foundation, weight, sturdy, balance, long, tall, gravity, etc. There are so many ways to construct and use the materials, share with us how your little one uses their creativity!
  5. While your little one is creating, make sure to ask and answer plenty of open-ended questions for them to describe their experience but also their creative thought process! If your toddler is only speaking a few words, help increase their vocabulary by describing what you see them doing!
  6. Share with us what your little ones learned and created! How did you enjoy this activity?
